Founded by a Chappaqua resident, the luxury garment storage company protects off-season pieces and special occasion looks alike.
It’s been 20 years since Stockholm native and Chappaqua resident Adam Gilvar’s Garde Robe broke into the luxury garment storage industry, and it’s been 25 years since we first saw Cher Horowitz in Clueless casually browse her computerized wardrobe and thought, “I need that!”
“It’s amazing how many people recall that specific scene,” the president and CEO says. Though at the time it seemed like a futuristic concept, Garde Robe offers a similar service shown in the 1995 movie. And “the reality,” Gilvar adds, “is that Garde Robe is so much more.”
The service goes lightyears beyond any run-of-the-mill storage operation for your wedding dress or off-season articles.
“Garde Robe’s service is all about the combination of proper garment care, accessibility, and an extremely high level of service and response,” Gilvar says. Each garment or accessory consigned to the service is meticulously inspected, photographed, documented, and catalogued by archivists, sent for cleaning or repaired as necessary, and then stored in a dedicated climate-controlled facility with archival-grade supplies.
